Have you been confused by the Huff railroad crossing closure dates?  The newspaper says one thing and the sign by the crossing says another.  The last few days I’ve been chatting with the PennDOT District 10 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program Coordinator.  I’d sent him the picture of the sign in Huff and that differed from their schedule.  He reached out to the railroad for an update.  He got back to me today and said it looks like the new dates will be November 6th and 7th.  He said the  railroad should be placing an updated sign at the crossing two weeks prior to the actual work.  He said he’d keep me informed of any changes.  Hope this helps all.

Here are a few more updates to the borough website.  The New Florence Community Library put out a flyer for their activity nights good through the end of May (this flyer was added to the Library webpage).  The library also has the first flyer out for their annual basket party that will be Sunday March 3rd, at Antiochian Village.  Next, during the December 2023 borough council meeting the council hired Al Thomas as the borough maintenance employee starting January 2nd, 2024 (the Borough Employees webpage was updated to include Al).  One of the first things he got the opportunity to do was operate the borough truck plowing snow.  Outgoing council member, Ron Gyure, as one of his last acts for the borough rode along with Al showing him the ropes on how to plow the roads of the borough.  If you see Al out and about in the community, please say “Hi”.  Finally, a big shout out to Ron for helping the “new guy” fit into the borough.  Thank you!

20 January 2024

There are a lot of updates to the borough government in the attached two sets of minutes.  MINUTES 12-19-23 and MINUTES 01-02-24.  The January 2nd, 2024, minutes are especially informative of the council membership, retained supporting personnel, and committee appointments.  Scott Fuller was appointed to the council with Resolution 1 of 2024, Appointment of Scott Fuller to Borough Council.   Additionally, during the January regular borough council meeting, Mayor Ed Craft resigned from the position (resignation letter will be posted once available).  Mr. Craft was then appointed to borough council with Resolution 2 of 2024, Appointment of Ed Craft to Borough Council (document will be added once available).  Also, during the meeting the statistics for the New Florence borough website were provided by Greg Csehoski, the webmaster (New Florence Borough Website Update 7 January 2024).  Next, the New Florence Community Library is looking for input on their activity nights.  Here is a statement from the library.  “We’re looking to add some activities to the Library’s Activity Nights. Would you be interested in a Trivia Night where teams can compete with each other answering questions? How about an interactive Mystery Game Night, where you’d be working with others to solve a fictional crime. Give us your input in the comments on Facebook or stop by the library.  The New Florence Volunteer Fire Department also has several updates.  First, the Chili Cookoff on January 27th has been cancelled.  They did not have enough participants sign up for the event.  They will also be having their next sub sale and rippie party on February 3rd.  Finally, even though there’s snow on the ground, the New Florence Recreation Committee would like to remind everyone you can reserve the playground for your events.  Give them a call for more information.  Thanks all.
