The borough office receives a lot of complaints about the condition of Rt 711, Rt 1001, and the underpass for those driving in the borough. These primary roads into and out of New Florence are state roads. These roads are more commonly known as Ligonier Street going from the bridge over the Conemaugh River to the intersection with Furnace Lane near the top of town hill. The other section is 13th Street from Ligonier Street to the New Florence VFW. These roads are not maintained by the borough; however, the storm drains under the roads are the borough’s responsibility. The diagram below shows the roads within the borough that are state maintained.
Unfortunately, many of the borough’s residents are unaware of the state’s ownership and call to complain to the borough office. For problems and concerns with these roads you should contact the appropriate state office. Below is a link to the PennDOT Customer Care Center where concerns can be submitted. Included is a screenshot of the Road or Bridge Conditions section of their website. As one can see, it’s pretty in depth for reporting issues. Please submit problems and concerns using the state’s website if time is not an issue. You’ll also receive a reference number for tracking your concern so one can check for updates.
