DESCRIPTION:Here is the latest press release on the Huff railroad crossing closure. \n \nHave you been confused by the railroad crossing closure dates?  The newspaper says one thing and the sign by the crossing says another.  The last few days I’ve been chatting with the PennDOT District 10 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program Coordinator.  I’d sent him the picture of the sign in Huff and that differed from their schedule.  He reached out to the railroad for an update.  He got back to me today and said it looks like the new dates will be November 6th and 7th.  He said the  railroad should be placing an updated sign at the crossing two weeks prior to the actual work.  He said he’d keep me informed of any changes.  Hope this helps all. \n \nThe following is a partial excerpt from the Indiana Gazette newspaper that was published on September 11th by Patrick Cloonan.  This posting only contains the information on the Huff closure.  There is a second closure in South Bend Township\, Armstrong County.  The article says the Huff railroad crossing will only be closed for about 24 hours.  Let’s hope that’s true.  For those who aren’t sure where this is at\, it’s the railroad crossing just north of the bridge coming out of New Florence on the way to the power plant or Rt. 22. \nRailroad crossing work slated later this month in two area townships\nThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in White Township-based District 10 is scheduling two upcoming events involving railroad crossings\, in West Wheatfield and Armstrong townships. \nPennDOT said there will be a closure on Huff Road (state Route 2009) in West Wheatfield Township as JMG Global performs railroad crossing work beginning Sept. 26 at 6 a.m. through Sept. 27 at 6:30 a.m. \nThe detour for the Huff Road closure is as follows: \n\nOn the north side of the railroad tracks it will be to travel north on Huff Road and turn west onto Power Plant Road (Route 2008)\, turn right onto Mulligan Hill Road (Route 2011) then left onto state Route 259 south.\n\nOne will then continue into Westmoreland County through Bolivar and turn left onto Creek Road (Route 1006)\, turn left onto state Route 711 and continue into New Florence. \nAfter that\, continue straight onto Ligonier Street (Route 1001) back into Indiana County on Huff Road (Route 2009). \n\nOn the south side of the railroad tracks the detour will be to travel south on Huff Road (Route 2009)\, continue into Westmoreland County on Ligonier Street (Route 1001)\, then continue straight onto state Route 711. Turn right onto Creek Road (Route 1006) and continue to Route 259.\n\nOne then turns right on Route 259 and travels through Bolivar into Indiana County\, and then through Robinson and turning right onto Mulligan Hill Road (Route 2011)\, turning left onto Power Plant Road (Route 2008) and then turning right on Huff Road (Route 2009). \nThe remainder of the article deals with the other railroad crossing closure.

The New Florence Community Development group would like to know. \nWe are changing up our house decorating contest this year and inviting all of you to help judge! We will post a google doc and have paper judging forms at the borough building depending on how you want to vote. \nPlease have your entry fee of $10 and your name and address in the black box at the borough building by December 14. No late entries will be accepted. \nPick up your judging sheet on the 16th or vote online. Judging sheets need back to us by Dec 22 at 6 pm. That is when we will count votes. \nPrizes will be different also this year and are tbd. Please spread the word and make this a fun event for our community! DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate Festivus with the rest of us while completing an awesome 5k course. \nWe are back for the 4th year. The event gets better every year.  We look forward to making the experience even better this year. \nAll proceeds go directly to the New Florence Volunteer Fire Company. \nFestivus 5k packet pickup will be at the New Florence Firehall morning of the race starting at 9am (possibly little earlier). SUMMARY:2024 Santa Express - Time Change!!!
DESCRIPTION:The New Florence Volunteer Fire Department announced a slight change to the time they’ll be escorting Santa around the borough on December 24th.  Instead of starting at 11:30 am they will be starting at 1 pm.  Parents\, make sure you let your kids know of the time change.  We wouldn’t want them to miss Santa touring the town.  Cheers. \n \nThe New Florence Volunteer Fire Department will be helping with the Santa Express.  Santa will be visiting New Florence on Christmas eve while his sleigh is in for a last-minute tune-up.  Santa has asked the fire department to help out. Of course\, the firefighters volunteered to drive their truck all around New Florence to give Santa a chance to see all the good little boys and girls.  Merry Christmas everyone.
